EQUAL OPPORTUNITY POLICY OF FUTURE WORLD SCHOOLS AIMS TO
The school includes in its annual report to parents, information concerning the arrangements made for the admission of Special pupils; the steps taken to prevent disabled pupils from being treated less favourably than other pupils; the facilities provided to assist access to the school by disabled pupils. Progress in this area is documented in the School’s Action Plan. The school recognises its need to celebrate the diversity that exists within its community and ensures that all have the opportunity to respond to the expectations and challenges of the curriculum. It is our school policy to incorporate a balanced view of the world through a multi-cultural approach, to recognise that our pupils are world citizens who will meet a wide variety of cultures throughout their lives, to evaluate our practice to ensure that it is not at the expense of indigenous cultures and to allow children equal access to opportunities which will equip them for adult life and to achieve challenging expectations.
Future World Schools Child Protection Policy , in keeping with our core values and vision statements, has a Child Protection Policy that guides our staff and families in matters related to the health, safety and care of students in attendance at our school. By enrolling your child at RMS, you agree to work in partnership with the school and abide by the policies adopted by the RMS Board. The FWS Child Protection Policy defines the standards by which all RMS students should be treated with respect and dignity at all times and there should be no physical punishment/harassment/use of abusive words. Nothing is more important than the safety of our students. When they are safe and happy, they learn and thrive.
In Future World Schools, we provide special help to eligible children with disabilities. This help is called Special Education and Related Services. Special Needs education at FWS is the practice of educating students with special needs in a way that addresses their individual differences and needs. Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, accessible settings. These interventions are designed to help learners with special needs achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and success in school and their community, than may be available if the student were only given access to a typical classroom education.
Future World Schools common special needs include learning disabilities, communication disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, physical disabilities, and developmental disabilities. Students with these kinds of special needs are likely to benefit from additional educational services such as different approaches to teaching, the use of technology, a specifically adapted teaching area, or a resource room.
FWS caters special education needs and has designed specific programmes for students with special needs. Remedial education is designed for any students, with or without special needs; the defining trait is simply that they have reached a point of under preparedness, regardless of why. FWS special education program is customized to address each individual student’s unique needs. We provide a continuum of services, in which students with special needs receives varying degrees of support based on their individual needs.
Our Special education programs are individualized so that they address the unique combination of needs in a given student. Students with special needs are assessed to determine their specific strengths and weaknesses. Placement, resources, and goals are determined on the basis of the student’s needs. We use different approaches to providing special education services to students. We provide individualized education, addressing specific needs. Different instructional techniques are used for some students with special educational needs. Special transport arrangements, including escorts and safety harnesses are available for children with disabilities attending school.
We provide oral instruction for students with reading disabilities, present tests and reading materials in an oral format so the assessment is not unduly influenced by lack of reading ability, provides learning disabled students with frequent progress checks, gives immediate feedback to learning disabled students as they need to see quickly the relationship between what was taught and what was learned and making activities concise and short, whenever possible as long, drawn-out projects are particularly frustrating for a learning disabled child.
Learning disabled students need and should get lots of specific praise. Instead of just saying, “You did well,” or “I like your work,” our Millennium Teachers make sure to provide specific praising comments that link the activity directly with the recognition. And when necessary, we plan to repeat instructions or offer information in both written and verbal formats. Again, it is vitally necessary that learning disabled children utilize as many of their sensory modalities as possible. Millennium Schools encourages cooperative learning activities when possible. We invite students of varying abilities to work together on a specific project or toward a common goal and create an atmosphere in which a true “community of learners” is facilitated and enhanced.
Future World School, in pursuance of the policies as per the student charter and as detailed in the school prospectus and home school agreement, seeks to achieve its objectives within an agreed ‘Student Code of Conduct’.
